In the north of Cologne, close to the left bank of the Rhine, is the oldest and most tradition-rich green space in the city. The 11.5-hectare “Flora” originates from the 19th century and is now often used for various horticultural and industrial sector exhibitions. The Flora and the botanical gardens, which were initially separate institutions, were joined together in 1920.
Nowadays, over a million visitors come every year to visit the more than 10,000 plant species. There are also a large number of plant display houses, such as the tropical glasshouses and the palm house.
The Haus Flora (or simply “Flora”), in the middle of the site, has a great deal of charm, and houses a restaurant and ballroom. During the summer, the annual “summer night at the zoo and Flora” takes place, which offers an attractive programme of music alongside the opportunity to visit to the zoo by night.
The main entrance is on the “Alter Stammheimer Weg” road in the Riehl district of Cologne.
