Distance 380 km
Roundtrip: yes
Signage: along the route

Romantic moated castles, leisurely cycling. Enjoy this wonderful combination on the moated castle route along the Kölner Bucht (Bay of Cologne) and through the Eifel region. The German national cycling club (ADFC) has inspected the route and awarded it the status of “Quality cycling route” with three stars. Over 120 castles and palaces are waiting to be discovered along the way. See the multi-faceted palace and castle culture of the region, from Godesburg castle in Bonn via Burg Satzvey castle and other idyllically located castles in the Eifel, through to the UNESCO World Heritage Site palaces of Augustusburg and Falkenlust in Brühl.

The region, with its exciting stories and varied landscapes, is easy to explore along the 380-km main route. A further 470 km of castle fun can be added via signposted alternative routes. As well as the castles and palaces, historic locations and numerous mills, monasteries, museums and other attractions can be found along the way. Combined with the charming landscape of the Rheinische Bucht (Rhine Bay), the Eifel region and the Jülicher Börde lowland region, this bike tour has plenty to offer.
