The Bergische Panorama-Radweg (Bergisch Panorama Cycle Trail) offers a colourful panorama of unusual insights and views. What the art of engineering once achieved for the railways now provides a very special cycling experience: 14 tunnels, viaducts of up to 40 metres in height and a great many bridges with magnificent views of the distant landscape or insights into the neighbouring towns’ oceans of houses. On the trail of industrial culture and in the heart of a moving landscape rich in water, there are more than enough opportunities to take a break - for example in the park under Germany’s highest railway bridge or at Schloss Burg. The trip by transporter bridge across the Wupper is a special experience and a cableway also helps cyclists to ascend to the heights. Then on via the Water Quintet Route through the castle town of Hückeswagen and the Hanseatic towns of Wipperfürth and Marienheide to Olpe in the Sauerland.
Between Marienheide and Olpe, the Bergische Panorama-Radweg (Bergisch Panorama Trail) runs along normal cycle paths instead of along former railway lines.
During the summer months from March to October, the “Bergischer FahrradBus”, or Bergisch bike bus, travels between Leverkusen-Opladen and Marienheide on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays and stops along the Bergische Panoramaradweg (Bergisch Panorama Cycle Trail) in Hückeswagen, Wipperfürth and Marienheide. Up to 20 bikes can be transported at the same time on the bus trailer. Further information can be found at www.bergischer-fahrradbus.de.
